We arrived at Corallia Beach Hotel Apartments in Coral Bay expecting a relaxing family holiday based on the photographs, descriptions and facilities advertised online. Unfortunately, the accommodation we were given was completely different from what we believed we had booked.
We had reserved a one-bedroom apartment and a studio apartment for four people. The two rooms were located far apart, which was disappointing, but we initially accepted this because we understood the rooms had telephones. We soon discovered that the studio did not have a telephone at all, which meant we could not easily contact the children staying there.
The problems became much more serious once we inspected the rooms.
Our one-bedroom apartment was extremely dated, very hot and poorly maintained. The air conditioning made little difference, even after being left on for some time. The furniture was old and worn, the bedding appeared dirty, there were hairs in the bed, the pillows were yellowed, and there were stains throughout the apartment.
The sofa collapsed when I sat on it, and my daughter had to help me get back up. I have Multiple Sclerosis, so this was not only upsetting but also potentially dangerous.
The bathroom had an old bath with a rusty shower and very poor water pressure. Because of my mobility difficulties, climbing into a bath is not safe or practical for me. The sink was also loose on its pedestal.
The kitchen was not what I would consider suitable for a self-catering holiday. There was an old cooker, only one saucepan, and a very small fridge that was yellowed, stained and did not appear properly cleaned.
The balcony door was jammed and difficult to open, the safe could not be used because there was no key, and the television was smaller than my iPad and had no remote control.
The studio apartment was no better. It was also dirty, dated and poorly maintained. The shower area was old, rusty and slippery, the toilet did not flush properly, the sink was loose, there was nowhere suitable to hang towels, and there was no telephone.
The hotel itself was unbearably hot, including the reception area. There were signs telling guests to keep windows and doors closed because the air conditioning was running, but the public areas were still extremely hot. Even the manager was visibly dripping with sweat.
The on-site shop also looked nothing like the photos we had seen. It was almost empty, and the refrigerated section contained what appeared to be food wrapped in cling film. We only bought drinks.
We raised our concerns with the hotel, but the response to most issues was simply that they would “look into it.” In our opinion, these were not minor faults that could be fixed during our stay. Both apartments were in a similar condition, so we did not believe moving rooms would solve the problem.
The decision to leave was not taken lightly. We had travelled all day, we were exhausted, and the last thing we wanted was to search for somewhere else to stay. However, we genuinely did not feel we could remain there safely or comfortably.
We were forced to spend an additional £1,800 on alternative accommodation and another €70 on transport. This used up a large part of the spending money we had saved for the holiday and meant our children could no longer do all of the activities they had been looking forward to.
We lost the entire first day of our holiday dealing with the accommodation, contacting Love Holidays, finding somewhere else to stay and arranging transport.
I am now fighting with Love Holidays to get my money back because I believe this holiday was mis-sold. I did not receive the accommodation that I believed I was booking based on the photographs and description shown online.
Anyone considering staying here should look very carefully through my photos before booking. In my experience, you are not being sold what you think you are being sold.
Please do not rely only on the promotional photographs. Look closely at recent guest photos and reviews before making your decision.
The final photo shows the beautiful replacement accommodation we moved to after leaving Corallia. The difference was unbelievable.
For us, this was truly a case of going from the pits to beauty.
The location of this hotel is brilliant. Lovely beach , great views as long as you pay for a frontal sea view . Staff were friendly and helpful, the owner was always overseeing that everything was being done properly. breakfast was OK, evening meals were themed so different each night. Evening meals were good and restaurant staff very friendly. Sunday carvery with Brussels sprouts were great. This was our third stay here and loved it , room 310 . Bear it in mind this hotel is half the price of most others with no beach or view.
Let's first start with the few positives Pool good plenty of sunbeds at all times Room very big and would have been good if modernised and lovely sea view which we had paid extra for Reception staff lovely Hotel very old fashioned and in need of a huge makeover Room had light hanging off , wires loose behind TV , no lights working on balcony. Do not go half board food very poor and not tasty Breakfast ok but would not rave about it Have to pay extra for a safe Would not go again as a previous review said cyprus fowlty towers
Dated furniture, below average cooking facilities. Lovely pool, great staff, 100% for cleanliness and to all staff. Hob didn't work, they replaced it immediately and brought pans. Pool is absolutely gorgeous. It's in a quiet spot so it's a good walk to the main area.
