- Mikes Kanarium City Hotel

This delightful property enjoys a great setting in the charming city of Larnaca. The hotel is surrounded by attractions, as well as a host of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities. The harbour is just a short distance away. The city's main entertainment areas are within easy reach. Links to the public transport network can be found nearby. This property is a great option for business and leisure travellers alike. The guest rooms offer space, comfort and convenience. Guests are afforded excellent service, with friendly, professional staff on hand to ensure that their individual needs are fully met.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
LOCATION. Placed near the very centre of Larnaca, the hotel is modern and well-furnished. Rooms have a lot of space, considering the area in front of the beds, with a desk and a small couch, and the balcony. The bathroom is minimal in spite of a large shower and not so private as you can see the shadow of the person sitting on the wc from outside the door. Generally speaking, the hotel is tidy and properly maintained. Mark: 9/10.
BREAKFAST. Surprisingly good breakfast, with plenty of choice. The fresh yogurt is a great plus, pastries are ok, pancakes are super, home-made marmalades are fantastic. Fruit and American breakfast-related food for those who like it. I suggest to increase the variety throughout the week. Mark: 9/10.
SERVICE. The staff is very present for every need. For instance, when we asked the owners about leasing a car or to book a taxi for us, they were super-helpful. As an Italian, I'm accustomed to a warmer welcome, yet everything works fine here. The personnel tasked with cleaning the room is very nice too. You can also make a tea by yourself in the room. Mark: 10/10.
PRICE. Circa €400 for 5 nights in a double room is excellent. Mark: 10/10.
In low season, when paying over €100 per night with breakfast and dinner included, I expect certain basic standards. I do not expect a bathroom so small that the sink is microscopic. I do not expect having to maneuver around the toilet just to enter the shower. I do not expect the sink and shower drains to be painfully slow. If it is practically impossible to wash your hands without splashing water onto the floor, and if the shower has no proper door or barrier to prevent water from flooding the bathroom, then at the very least I expect the bath mat to be replaced daily. Discovering on the third day that it was the same soaked mat, and being told by reception that towels are only changed every three days, is simply unacceptable under these conditions. In 2026, I also expect pillows that are not stuffed with uncomfortable, lumpy wool like something from the 1970s. I will not even comment on the lack of respect from certain guests who shout in the corridors at all hours, making proper rest nearly impossible.
This has been a very disappointing stay. There is constant drilling noise next door, making it impossible to relax, and the bathroom smells strongly of sewage, which is completely unacceptable.
The sheets don’t even fit the bed properly, which shows a lack of basic attention to detail.
What made things worse was the service. When I asked for hot water, I was told, “hot water is not on the menu,” and that I needed to order a tea instead — despite the fact that my family has been spending money on drinks and food throughout our stay.
This hotel fails on basic comfort, cleanliness, and customer service. I would not recommend staying here.
I'd recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Larnaca, close to the beach and the centre. The staff was friendly (except for two girls), and it has a 24 hour open terrace with a bar which i think is a lifesaver, however we didnt visit it. The breakfast was good, pretty standard with a few local things sprinkled in. The shower was a bit awkward. we even had a little balcony for smoking. It was a really good experience and I fully recommend it.
The hotel staff are not very helpful which is what lets the hotel down. I watched an elderly couple check in. They were not shown how to use the key cards on the doors. Appreciate this is simple to do, but if you haven’t done it before…. They was no help given either their luggage to their room. I actually offered to help them. The rooms are clean the breakfast is very good. It’s a great location too. But the staff have a lot to learn about customer service. I for one will not be staying here again.
