Melissi Beach Hotel

I stayed here 31st August for 1 week. My once a year holiday to Cyprus. I found the room larger than average, the room needs to be refurbished, very noisy air con, impossible to sleep with it on. The air con cooled the room well. The annoying thing with the air con and the door to the balcony, open the balcony door the con turns off completely which meant when you shut the door the air con stays off and you have to manually turn it back on again. The bathroom. It has a window to the main bedroom with a blind and what I found annoying about it was if you used the barhroom in the night when putting on the bathroom light it lite up the sleeping area and disturbed other who were sleeping. There is a fire/smoke sensor on the ceiling that has flashing lights on it. You do not notice the lights during the day but at night when the room is dark, when they flashing it hits you right in the eyes if you are laying in bed awake. Never had that in other hotels. The sensor usually has a very dim red of green like to indicate it is working.

The cleaning of the room was good most of the time. The toilet was not cleaned on two occasions.

The pool area is nice with plenty of sunbeds with a sandy area with sunbeds that lead to the beach. The pools are not disabled friendly. The main pool has one set of steps with a hand rail to enter, but the pool gets too deep to explore the whole pool and a disabled person is restricted to that tiny area of the pool. Add to that somebody in their wisdom decided to a kids water fountain that sprays water in a mushroom shape. Another set of steps with a rail is needed on the other side of the pool that has a larger area to move around before the pool gets too deep. The small adult pool has no easy access with steps with a rail, it only has ladder access, which meant I couldn't use the adult only pool. We spent most of our time going to the beach and going in the sea. Heavy bass club music is played around the pool for most of the day. I found this inappropriate with the hotel being a family hotel and not a hotel aimed at young people. There was no escaping the thumping bass, even on the sunbeds near the beach, the only plus was it was not as loud. Pool towels are available from the Spa between 9am and 11am and can be changed every other day. There is no deposit to pay for the pool towels like you have at most hotels. Sunbeds, someday there were always spare sunbeds on others every sunbed was taken by 10am. Near the beach the sunbeds often go very quickly as it is a very popular spot away from the pool are and thumping bass music.

The pool bar was very good and the staff are very friendly and helpful, a reasonable menu with a varied choice of food and drink. People on AI the choice is more restricted.

The dinning room was nicely air conditioned and didn't resemble a canteen like so many hotel dinning rooms do. The food was good and varied with plenty of choice. The food was always of good quality and there was always something you could find. There was always roast of bacon, leg of lamb, turkey, roast beef, whole cooked salmon and belly pork on our stay. Every night the meat on offer in the various dishes was chicken, beef, pork, lamb and fish. There was always a beef dish on offer. No steak on any of the nights. The Italian themed night had no spaghetti bolenase on offer even it was shown on the picture, and most disappointing on the Cyprus night no moussaka on offer. I found the cyprus night the worst night for food choice. The dessert area is in a poor place and gets cramped with queues of people. The breakfast is has a very good selection of food, all the cooked offerings, omelette, poached eggs, fried eggs and boiled eggs. Cold meats, salads, cheese, cerals, fruit, bacon, often frankfurter type sausages. I didn't like the English sausages on when offered at breakfast, not the best quality of English sausage.

I only had one cocktail that is made from local spirits a long Island iced tea, it lacked the kick a long Island has, and it was nothing like a long Island made with Branded spirits. It was disappointing that no premium cocktails were on offer made with Branded spirits. All cocktails are made with local spirits. I only drunk Branded spirits on my stay as I find the local spirits on offer in Cyprus very poor quality.

The main bar they have no pint glass and only serve 33cl of local beer for 3.50 euros. A pint is 5 euros, if you are drinking beer it works out more expensive buying 33cl of beer compare to a pint. The entainment area is too small for the size of hotel and is held on a terrace off the hotel main reception area and the inside bar.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful and can't do enough for you. A credit to the hotel.

I have tried to give a very honest review. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Melissi beach. It was a difficult review to do with the hotel doing so many things right, but small things let it down in places. The access to the pools are not disabled friendly but the pool area is disabled friendly. And the bass music around the pool was a negative. Food was very good, in the restaurant and the pool snack bar. Staff were wonderful and very helpful. A nice hotel overall.

Sotos and the whole bar team were brilliant and very friendly and accommodating and provided a 5star service throughout
