Overall, Atlantica Sungarden Beach is a nice hotel with a lot of positives. The drinks were good, breakfast and snack bar were great, rooms were always clean and cool, and both pools were lovely — especially the adults-only infinity pool which was quiet and relaxing. It’s also right by the beach, although the main strip in Ayia Napa is quite a walk.
The downsides were poor entertainment and repetitive evening food, but that’s expected with all inclusive.
What completely ruined the experience for me was having my watch stolen from the room. I left it on the side in the morning, came back and it had vanished. After reporting it to reception, I was told management spoke to the maid who cleaned my room. After that, I returned to find my watch suddenly placed on my bed.
I was extremely angry about this and although the hotel itself is nice, this situation has completely put me off and I would not return.
This was my second stay at Atlantica Sungarden Beach and it didnt disappoint.
We arrived at 4am after a very long day of travel, when we got there we were kindly greeted at reception and given our keys to a room on the 3rd floor, a family room. I had booked a twin room and requested a high floor and upon speaking to reception this was quickly sorted and changed for us. The view from the 5th floor was much better.
The room: We stayed in room 539 and as stated above the view was beautiful. The bed for me was bearable but my partner struggled as he found them too hard alongside the pillows. We had the room service come in 3 times during our stay (our preference) and the room was tidied to a good standard but there were stains on the sheets and the curtains. We left our water bottles out which we had been refilling daily and they were taken and not replaced with new bottles. The water pressure in the shower wasn't great but the bathrooms are beautiful. The balcony doors do not stay open, they seem to have a spring back system now- we had to wedge a chair in the door to allow any fresh air to come im- i feel this ruined the vibe of having a balcony and i dont remember them doing this on my previous stay.
The food: The food was beautiful, i can see where the effort has gone in during the refurb and extra * . I have stayed at many all inclusive hotels and the food is always pretty standard and samesy but this time we feel as much as there wasnt as much choice as a usual all inclusive buffet the quality and choice of food was much better. I normally stick to spag bowl all week but i tried new things every day!! Desserts could have more options though. The snack bar food looked amazing- salads, nuggets and chips and burgers! I only had the burger and chips on one occasion and i really enjoyed it. The drinks were standard for an all inclusive- my partner enjoyed the med blue cocktail! I stuck to water and orange juice most the holiday and having the cold water refill stations was perfect for me.
The pools: We mostly stuck by the infinity pool and the one next to it and it was peaceful and never really busy. We stuck our towels down around 8/9am and got good spots! No sunbed wars at all. The large pool & kids pool were a little busier & louder but nothing too major, we enjoyed one day round this pool just to try it out but preferred the atmosphere of the other pools.
The area: I find this hotel to be in the perfect area of ayia napa which is one of my reasons for booking it twice. You are far enough from the strip to enjoy the peace but its only a 15/20 min walk into the town if you fancy popping out. You are so close to the beach too. The views are out of this world from the sea view rooms.
The entertainment: We sat and watched 'the effects brothers' and a magic show one evening- pretty standard entertainment but fun for kids if you go away with any. Lots of live singers on throughout the week too, didnt go to see any personally so cannot comment too much on that.
The cats: I am a big cat lover and was delighted to find a litter of 6 kittens in the bushes outside the hotel! Alongside 4/5 local adult strays. these cats are looked after and fed so well. We had a cat around the pool who loved to lounge under the sunbeds and was extremely friendly and two cats around the snack bar pool also very friendly. The cats truly were a wonderful part of my stay and i loved seeing them every day.
Our flight was pretty late on the last day and we had to check out at 12pm. When enquiring about late check out we was quoted €70 to stay in our rooms until 3pm or €100 until 6. We didnt see this to be worth it and quite expensive. We used the courtesy room to shower and prepare for our departure which was a nice way to freshen up.
Overall our stay at this hotel was wonderful! If anything it went too quick. Extremely impressed with the food quality and service- special mention to Ana the waitress who was a delight to see every day! A beautiful soul! I looked forward to seeing her in the restaurant. The reception staff were lovely too- i cannot remember their names sadly. I would come back to this hotel over and over again if i could!
We've just returned from a weeks stay here as a family of 4. We stayed in the bungalow rooms and it was huge. It was kept very clean and the view was breathtaking. The food was really good for an all inclusive. The à la carte meals were nice too. All staff were really friendly and polite. The pool area was clean and you could always find a sunbed, however if you want a certain place you do need to go up in the morning to put your towels out which is expected.
The only things I didn't really like were the drinks and the entertainment. For me, the alcoholic drinks were awful. The cocktails and spirits were so strong I couldn't enjoy them. They tasted like nail polish remover. I didn't really drink all holiday unless we went to the shop and bought some in which was disappointing.
The entertainment was also terrible. The kids club is almost non existent. We went a couple of times to find it closed. And the one time we did go and it was open, they did a little bit of colouring but they were bored. The girls seem nice but they really need to make more effort with the kids. The last 2 holidays we've been on have had a fantastic team who have played games in the pools, rounded the kids up to play games on the grass and just been a lot more friendly and upbeat in general. We went down one night to ask for face painting and the girls said we were too late. They were dancing half heartedly alone on the dance floor with no kids around and thought that would have been a really good opportunity to grab the kids and get them involved.
Anyway, all in all the hotel is nice, but I would not return as a family. There are much better hotels if you are coming with young kids!
Hotel was fine nice location wonderful grounds .snack bar was brilliant really nice .food in buffet restaurant ok but no decent salad . Bar stafff really friendly. The room 521 no where to hang your coats no where to put your case no shower caps or mini toiletries no sheets on bed just a quilt. Way too hot for quilts . The cleaning of the room was terrible black hair all over floor on arrival .balcony screen could not see out of it hat to clean my self mirrors and bedside cabinets never cleaned once well we their and when we had bed sheets changed they where stained yellow. The rooms are very small . Could not find a TV to watch the football apart from are room but did want stay in room when on holiday. Not even in reception.we stayed on 21st June. I don’t think we will go back there.
