Anonymous Beach Hotel

The hotel has a great location, right in front of a beautiful beach. Unfortunately, that is about the only positive aspect of my stay.

The hotel is noisy at all hours, especially at night, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. My initial room was extremely dirty, with mold, old furniture, and an unpleasant, strange smell. Neither the TV nor the air conditioning worked, making the room practically uninhabitable. It was on the first floor, at the end of the hallway, in the section of the building facing the pool. After complaining on the second night, I was eventually given a different room.

The food was acceptable at breakfast, with gluten free options, but the restaurant’s other offerings were disappointing, lacking flavor and being overpriced. The staff were generally impolite and, in my experience, seemed much more attentive to guests from Western and Northern Europe than to others.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not recommend this hotel. I appreciated that my room was eventually changed, although I suspect this was partly because my reservation had been made through a travel agency. Aside from the excellent beachfront location, the hotel fell well below my expectations.

Amazing from start to finish, hotel was extremely clean, rooms cleaned daily, staff went above and beyond. Food was amazing buffet breakfast, lots to eat night time was choose of menu, we went half board, beach is 2 mins away fantastic stay.

We stayed at Anonymous Hotel for the first 11 days of October. It was the end of the season, so it wasn’t crowded, but things might be different during peak season.

Pros: Location – Close to the beach (just 50 metres from the sand), with 2–3 supermarkets within a 5-minute walk. Adults-only – No children shouting and screaming. Good food – À la carte dinners with a fairly wide selection. Over 9–10 days, you’ll get to try most of the dishes. The remaining options include salads, sandwiches, wraps and burgers. Breakfast is buffet-style and doesn’t change much, which may disappoint fussy eaters, but overall there should be enough variety to keep you happy for a week to a week and a half. Housekeeping – Good standard of cleaning; the hotel is clean. Evening entertainment – The hotel makes an effort to provide evening entertainment, with some kind of show on almost every night. There are dancers, a juggler and fire-eater, an ABBA tribute show, a guy playing the bouzouki and performing typical Cypriot and Greek music live, and even a traditional dance party. Just don’t expect world-class performances.

Cons: Breakfast – As mentioned above, it can get repetitive. There is also a very limited choice of fruit. Balconies – Very small, barely enough room for a small round table and two chairs. Two larger people would struggle to fit comfortably. There is virtually no privacy: the balconies are close together and there are no dividing screens, so you can see and hear your neighbours. If they smoke, you’ll also have to smell and breathe in their cigarette smoke. The east-facing balconies are completely exposed to the sun until noon on sunny days, turning into a real frying pan. The west-facing balconies overlook the neighbouring hotel and its balconies, just 20–30 metres away. Only guests on the top floor can hope to enjoy a view of the sunset. Noise – Rooms on the east side suffer from evening noise that can continue until late, sometimes until 11 pm. The neighbouring Tasia Maris Hotel is a huge complex that plays pop and disco music throughout the day and hosts various shows in the evening. It gets really loud. On top of that, there is the constant, loud hum of the air-conditioning units from this hotel and another nearby. Wi-Fi – Reasonably good in the rooms and around the hotel, but I had constant problems with it on the balcony, with the connection dropping every minute or two for a few seconds at a time. I have a four-year-old Samsung phone, so perhaps newer phones handle it better. Air conditioning – Very noisy in our room. It wasn’t particularly powerful either, but it did the job. I can’t say how well it performs in August, but it was adequate in October.

Overall - we were happy with our stay. For us, the positives outweighed the negatives, but… I don’t think we’ll be returning to this hotel.
