Mutton dressed as Lamb

Before travelling, we had looked forward to this holiday as an important opportunity for our family to relax and spend quality time together. My wife is currently six months pregnant, and we were also travelling with our three-year-old child. This was one of our last opportunities to enjoy a relaxing family holiday before welcoming our new baby.

Unfortunately, the reality of the holiday fell considerably short of what we expected and what we believed we had paid for. Having spent over £3,000 on this all-inclusive holiday, we certainly did not feel that the hotel lived up to expectations or represented the standard of holiday we had anticipated when booking with TUI.

One of the most disappointing aspects of the holiday was the food and dining experience. The quality of the food and the extremely limited options available meant that we felt we had little choice but to eat out at restaurants every evening. This was particularly frustrating given that we had specifically paid a significant amount of money for an all-inclusive holiday.

During the day, we were able to manage with toast for breakfast, while the available lunch options largely consisted of items such as chips and pizza. However, this was certainly not representative of the quality, variety or standard of food we expected when paying over £3,000 for an all-inclusive holiday.

The evening meal options and overall food quality were so poor that we simply could not justify eating at the hotel each evening. As a result, we were forced to spend in excess of £300 of our own money eating out at local restaurants during our holiday.

We find this completely unacceptable. We paid for an all-inclusive package so that suitable food and drink would be available to us at an appropriate standard throughout our stay. Instead, we ended up paying a considerable amount of additional money simply to ensure that we could enjoy decent evening meals as a family.

This additional expense should not have been necessary and significantly added to our disappointment with both the overall value and standard of the holiday. The fact that we had to spend more than £300 on meals outside of the hotel, despite having already paid for an all-inclusive package, is something we believe should be given serious consideration when reviewing our complaint.

The standard of cleanliness within the restaurant was also completely unacceptable. On numerous occasions, the plates and utensils available for guests to use were visibly dirty and appeared not to have been properly cleaned. We regularly found ourselves having to search through multiple plates and items of cutlery in order to find ones that were clean enough to use.

This was particularly unpleasant and concerning when travelling with a pregnant woman and a young child. Basic cleanliness and hygiene should be an absolute minimum expectation at any hotel, particularly in a restaurant where food is being served. Having to inspect and search through plates and utensils in order to find clean ones significantly affected our confidence in the overall hygiene standards of the hotel and added further to our discomfort during meal times.

We were also extremely disappointed by the way the all-inclusive drinks package appeared to operate. On several occasions, we were asked to provide our room number when ordering drinks, despite being on an all-inclusive package. This created confusion and concern about whether we were being charged for drinks that we believed should have been included.

Furthermore, we were informed that ice would only be provided in drinks purchased outside of the all-inclusive offering. This seemed completely unreasonable and difficult to understand. Ice is a basic component of a cold drink, particularly in a hot holiday destination, and restricting it only to drinks that were paid for separately made the all-inclusive package feel unnecessarily limited and poor value for money.

These restrictions and inconsistencies contributed to our overall feeling that the all-inclusive package we had paid a substantial amount of money for did not provide the level of service, quality or value we had reasonably expected.

Another serious concern was the environment around the pool area. On a number of occasions, we could clearly smell what appeared to be marijuana being smoked around the pool. This was particularly concerning and unpleasant The pool area should have been a safe, family-friendly environment where we could relax without concerns about exposure to what appeared to be drug use or the strong smell associated with it. We found it extremely uncomfortable that this appeared to be taking place in an area occupied by families and young children. We believe that the hotel should have taken steps to prevent this behaviour and maintain an appropriate environment for all guests. I will say the rooms are of good quality but that certainly doesn't warrant the price of the hotel. I would most certainly not visit this hotel again.

Ok, but not 4 star

Rooms- we were situated in a block on the far side of the main pool and these Rooms were awful. First room we was in overlooked a main rd which at night time became a race track with lots of very loud sports cars driving at high speed until early hours of the morning. The double glazed balcony doors were useless at keeping out the noise so it was impossible to sleep. We asked to be moved and was given a room in the same block but on the other side away from the rd. The air conditioning unit was leaking water all over the floor, the shower head was completely knackered and water just trickled out of it, bed was broken and dirt all over the sides. The room was only given a quick floor sweep, towels changed and bed made. You have to put your toilet tissue in a bin and this wasn't emptied so we ended up flushing it. We reported the issues but nothing was done about it. We had a late check out and was moved to a different room on our last day which was in the main building and what a difference, these Rooms were 100x better. In my opinion that small block of rooms needs a complete overhaul and updating. POOLS- There were 4 pools, 1main pool, indoor pool, kids splash pool and an adults only pool. The areas around these pools were kept clean and tidy but the only pool I can comment on is the adults only one as we didn't use the main pool during our stay. It was nice and peaceful with music playing in the background, large sunbeds with very thick mattresses and a bar. Now we come to the pool itself, DISGUSTING!!! Thick with green slime around the edge just above the water line, build of dirt and sand in the corners of the pool and thick black mould in the grout of the tiles. We was always down at this pool by 6.30am and for the whole time we were there we never saw anyone clean it. For a 4 star hotel this is unacceptable. FOOD & DRINK- The main restaurant is where you have breakfast, lunch and dinner and there are also some speciality restaurants to choose from during your stay which need to be booked. BREAKFAST- Not a great deal to choose from, bacon which isn't bacon, fried eggs which were deep fried in an inch of fat, scrambled egg, toast, cheese, cold meet, salad, a few cereal, yoghurt, tinned fruit or an apple. You couldn't even get a proper omelette as they were cooked then chopped up in to small pieces for everyone to have a small piece. LUNCH- Only had lunch in the restaurant once during our stay but what we had was nice, BBQ Ribs with wedges and salad. Pork and pepper sauce with rice. DINNER- Cant comment as we never ate here at night, we ate at The Nags Head which is across the rd from the hotel, excellent food, drinks and service. Would definitely recommend a visit during a stay at this hotel. A LA CART- Booked this restaurant and the food was very nice. Salmon starter, lamb shank main, cheese, crackers and vanilla mousse. BBQ NIGHT- The food here was excellent, kebabs, chicken, pork, lamb, sausage, pitta bread, salad and dessert. The meat was cooked to perfection over an open flame and was help yourself to as much as you wanted. POOL SNACK BAR- Nice but disappointing as they only served 1 item a day. Burger 1 day, hotdogs another, kebabs another and chips. Why they couldn't cook these 3 items every day i don't understand. INDOOR SNACK BAR- We used this a few times at lunch time you had a choice of chicken wraps, ham sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, tuna sandwich, cheese toasties, ham and cheese toasties, salad and a small selection of deserts all of which were very nice. DRINKS- Didn't really drink alot of alcoholic drinks at the hotel as we used The Nags Head for drinks most nights as I am a cider drinker and you can never get this at hotels abroad. My wife had a couple of cocktails at the hotel which she said were ok. During the day we only drunk soft drinks, every holiday we go on we always take our own insulated cups which obviously keeps our drinks cold but also saves using the hotel paper/ plastic cups but for some very strange reason which is unknown to me they will not fill up your own cups at this hotel. They will pour into one of their paper cups, you then pour it into your own cup and they throw the paper cup into the bin. What a waste. In this day age you should be doing everything you can to cut down on waste. Didn't understand it!!! LOCATION- Hotel is a little bit isolated, not a lot to do within walking distance. There is a beach down the rd but we did not visit it as we heard other guests saying it wasnt that nice. You can get on a bus at the bottom of the rd which will take you to the marina and old town for a couple of euros per person, Marina very expensive for food and drink. Old town nice to walk around for a couple of hours, cheaper restaurants and shops here. CATS- There a lot of cats roaming around this hotel so if you are allergic to cats or just don't like them then stay away. So as you can imagine cat s@#t in hot weather STINKS!!!! The staff do there best to clean it up but they obviously can't get it all so as you are walking around you can smell it.

So overall it's not a bad hotel but definitely not 4 star as it is definitely a bit rough around the edges .

Excellent stay and fabulous staff.

This was a last minute booking for a week and what a gem of a hotel!!

We wanted a total relaxing holiday with the option to visit local attractions, we booked the all inclusive option. The food was good quality and varied each day and it was lovely to be able to book the al a carte restaurants during our stay too.

All the staff are so friendly and care about the guests. A shout out to Dimitri in Zeta Cocktail bar and his team that looked after us every evening.

The entertainment was varied and the team work so hard, particularly Christino who is the anchor of the team. He puts his all into every activity, making the guest experience perfect. He is a credit to the hotel and you can observe this when guests leave and are saying goodbye to him, they genuinely warm to him.

I recommend this hotel, if you are looking for a relaxing break, you won’t be disappointed.

Disappointed

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Atlantica Oasis and genuinely saddened that I have had to leave a review like this.

We had already been moved rooms once, only to walk into the replacement room and discover that the bathroom has a see-through glass window looking directly into the bedroom. There is practically no privacy whatsoever, which I found completely unacceptable and honestly baffling for a hotel room.

As if having to change rooms wasn't frustrating enough, we then discovered that the fridge in our replacement room didn't work. We reported this directly to reception and expected somebody to either fix it, replace it or at the very least come back to us about it. Nothing was done. There seemed to be very little urgency or concern about resolving an issue that we had specifically taken the time to report.

The location is another major downside. There isn't a great deal immediately around the hotel, and reception were not particularly helpful in explaining what there is to do locally, where guests can go, or what is within reasonable travelling distance. When you're staying somewhere unfamiliar, you would expect reception staff to have basic local knowledge and be willing to help guests make the most of their holiday.

The entertainment itself was alright, but unfortunately our interaction with one member of the entertainment team, Christino, completely changed our opinion of the team. One evening we genuinely said, “Thanks for the great entertainment, guys,” only for Christino to turn around and accuse us of being sarcastic. We weren't being sarcastic at all. I found his response incredibly rude, arrogant and unnecessary. Guests should be able to compliment the entertainment team without being spoken to like that.

However, what concerned me far more was a later conversation involving another guest. Christino stated that he believed a guest wearing an adult wristband was underage. It was subsequently established that she was 14. He then indicated that he had done nothing about his concern.

That is something I believe management seriously needs to investigate.

If a member of staff genuinely suspects that a 14-year-old has incorrectly been issued an adult wristband, particularly if that wristband could potentially allow access to services, facilities or alcohol intended for adults, I cannot understand why that concern would simply be ignored. Regardless of how the wristband came to be issued, once a member of staff has identified a potential issue involving a child, surely there should be a procedure for reporting it to management and having it checked.

I am not making assumptions about what happened beyond the conversation I personally witnessed, but I believe the hotel's management should establish exactly what happened and whether the correct procedures were followed. This is far more important than a disagreement with an entertainer and should not simply be brushed aside.

Overall, this has been a very disappointing experience. Having already needed a room change, we were then given a room with virtually no bathroom privacy and a fridge that didn't work, which reception failed to resolve. The hotel is poorly situated if you want plenty to do outside the resort, reception offered little useful information about the surrounding area, and our experience with a member of the entertainment team was both rude and concerning.

For the amount people spend on a holiday, I expect considerably better customer service and much better handling of reported problems.

I sincerely hope Atlantica Oasis management actually reads this review rather than responding with a generic apology. The broken facilities and customer service issues need addressing, but most importantly I believe the circumstances surrounding an underage guest apparently having an adult wristband should be properly investigated.
