Hotel Ambasador

We recently stayed at the Ambasador for three nights. While most of the staff we interacted with were pleasant and helpful, especially Sandro, I (an Asian American female) experienced racism from an elder gentleman, who was part of the waitstaff, during breakfast on our last day.

While I was waiting to use the electronic coffee maker, the waiter was very helpful and kind to a white American couple ahead of me, operating the machine for them. Yet, when I asked him for a simple favor, to bring me some steamed milk to accompany my coffee, he became visibly annoyed, and even rolled his eyes at me.

His response was very jarring and disappointing, and, without raising my voice or being aggressive, I said, “please don’t roll your eyes at me and treat me with respect.” The waiter and the American couple then became offended that I had the courage to stand up for myself. The husband raised his voice at me, yelling “you’re too sensitive” and “shut the f*** up.”

When I reported the other guest’s abusive behavior to the restaurant manager, Louvre, he was cold and indifferent, and said there was nothing the hotel could do to address my concerns because it’s not the hotel’s responsibility to “teach guests manners.”

While we ultimately received an apology email after our check-out, the only apology we ever received, it was sadly too little too late.

It was sad, but unsurprising, to read reviews from other guests of color who’ve also experienced cold and indifferent treatment at this hotel. If you’re a person of color, AVOID AND GO ELSEWHERE!

Excellent location. Pool not too busy but water very cold! Concierge helpful andd friendly. Food was lovely and the service good. One waitress inadvertently took my breakfast away before I had finished and she could not have apologised more, bless her!! My only quibble was the room. Tastes differ, yes, but the lay out was very poorly designed and almost unsettling. I did not like it I'm afraid.
