A very wonderful beach side hotel , with spacious rooms and good supplies of necessities…
Buffet breakfast was sumptuous with lots of varieties…
A very nice spa (reserve some time to enjoy it)….the run along the beach was also very pleasant.
Location was also convenient.
This hotel is plagued by poor sound insulation. I can hear the guests at the adjacent room talking. The chair was bulky and squeaked when I moved it. I can hear the same squeaking noise from the guests living upstairs when he moved his chair. The door is designed with a gap for lights between the door frame and the wall. It looks elegant but when anyone closes the door, the door frame slams against the wall making loud noises. To save water, the shower head emits unacceptably insufficient quantity of water. On the plus side, the breakfast buffet had great selections and the desserts were great too.
Stayed at Hotel Amphora for a 4-night anniversary trip and unfortunately it fell well short of the 4-star standard it claims.
The "sea view" room we paid extra for overlooks a car park, something conspicuously absent from the hotel's own photos.
Before arrival, I emailed reception a week in advance explaining we'd arrive at 10:30am, asked about early check-in and late checkout (even offering to pay), and mentioned it was our anniversary. No reply. When we arrived and raised this in person, the man at the desk was blunt and dismissive, a flat "no, check-in is 3pm" with no offer to use facilities, suggest the beach bar, nothing. I had to ask twice just to leave our bags.
The room itself was decent, but the toilet was visibly stained and the toilet paper on the holder was wet on arrival.
Room service was effectively non-operational. Calling 1005 got a "we'll call you back", they didn't. There is no menu in the room; when we eventually got through and asked, we were told to come down and look at one ourselves. We ordered a portion of fries not knowing there was a hidden €10 room service surcharge on top, which wasn't mentioned anywhere.
Housekeeping was the biggest issue. We left the "please clean" card on the door every morning. The room wasn't touched for the first three days. When it eventually was, only the bed was made, no towel change, no toilet paper replaced, bins not emptied. We went two days without toilet paper, luckily we had wet wipes with us. We went to reception to ask for some and waited at an unmanned desk for over 10 minutes before giving up. Leftover food sat on the desk for two days because the room wasn't cleaned; we eventually had to put it in the hallway ourselves when ants appeared. Bedding was never changed once across the entire stay.
We also used the spa. The massage was fine, but the facilities were another story. One of the hot bed rooms had an overwhelming smell of urine, the steam room smelled of mould so strongly it was borderline unsafe, and the showers smelled of sewage. The sauna was the only part that was acceptable. For a 4-star hotel spa it was shocking.
On checkout, we were asked to pay the room service charge again despite having already paid by card at the door when the food was delivered. No explanation, just an insistence that it "may have declined", it hadn't.
Neither check-in nor checkout involved so much as a "how was your stay" or a "thank you for staying with us."
For the price of a 4-star hotel in peak season, this was genuinely embarrassing. I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend it.
The hotel is a 30 minute walk from the outskirts of split town. You cross the road and you’re in the sea. There is a fun inflatable on the beach and a jetty to jump into the beautiful Clearwater where you can also snorkel and see lots of fish. The hotel staff could not be more helpful. The spa is lovely as is The outdoor and indoor swimming pool facilities. We stayed at the hotel for three nights bed and breakfast – the breakfast was the best buffet breakfast I have experienced at a hotel and I am a seasoned traveller. The Prosecco, freshly made omelette and gorgeous selection of fruit meats and cheeses were to die for! Highly recommend staying here and having a Beach view room as the view is spectacular. Do not understand the low ratings for this hotel. I’m not sure what people actually are looking for!!
Huge disappointment. Rooms are average, not cleaned well and tatty. Torn curtain and coffee sachets not replaced. No milk available and room service non existent. The bathroom toiletries not filled up. The "waiters" at the restaurant are totally useless. Stand around and when you ask them for a coffee or a cutlery item they tell you to do it yourself. The transfer service from the harbour to the hotel they charged me 80 euros which the Uber charged 12 euros. This is a total rip off and dishonest. The food quality mediocre. Considering the price it's definitely not worth it. Does not deserve the four stars. The location is perfect and could be a fantastic amenity with proper management.
