We booked Kalinago for a very last minute trip in March and we were a little concerned about some of the reviews we read, but we had a fabulous time! Yes the hotel is a little dated and could probably do with a refresh but for us, the positives far outweigh any negatives. Our room was a good size with a gorgeous sea view. It was clean, had comfy beds, great aircon, lots of hot water and a fridge for some cold drinks. There was always a great selection of food at breakfast. The staff absolutely make this hotel …. Deslin and Lucille were outstanding! The beach is beautiful, we thought it was the best on the island. Yes the Rhum Runner comes into the bay some days but that didn’t trouble us at all. You get what you pay for and for us Kalinago hit the spot.
The staff are amazing
If you are lucky you may or may not get hot water
The beds are fit for the bin there is a piece of wood screwed to the wall to try and keep them together they are so uncomfortable.
Breakfast ok nothing special we did not bother to try the lunch and no pm meals
It’s in a very quiet neighbourhood to get out it’s a very steep hill to walk up
Noise from bar next door very loud when it’s open
Swimming pool is very dirty thick grease all around out side there were dirty plasters and tiles on the floor for the few days we were there not been hoovered once we decided not to go in.
Bathroom has lots of mould in and around it
Would I stay hear again a big fat NO
The hotel was dated and the beds were very uncomfortable. Need new mattresses! Toilet didn’t flush well at all. However, all that aside the beach was beautiful, the staff were amazing! Shout put to Deslin,Cutly and all the others. I will definitely be back providing they have new beds. The food and variety of restaurants around was great. Nice and close to Grande Anse. Has pool with swim up bar. Love love this island!
Now this hotel, and also apartments, really is a gem of a place. Probably located on the best beach on the island. Lovely people running it too, so welcoming, friendly and very helpful. There’s a choice of hotel room, or if on a longer stay, self catering apartments. Beach is fantastic. Don’t change!
Stay: December 25–28, 2025
OVERALL SUMMARY Kalinago Beach Resort benefits from a beautiful beachfront location and many genuinely warm, hardworking staff members. However, several ongoing issues — particularly with dining, hot water availability, mosquitoes and a misleading all-inclusive package — significantly impacted our stay and made it poor value for money.
FOOD & BEVERAGE Pros
Breakfast (10/10): Truly outstanding every morning. The breakfast cook was consistent and the food was excellent — authentic Caribbean flavours, well prepared and satisfying each day. This was one of the few highlights of our stay.
Lunch (6/10): Average overall but ok. Friendly, attentive and helpful staff contributing positively to the daytime dining experience.
Drinks: Drinks were high quality, well crafted and consistently enjoyable. A special mention to the young lady who worked both breakfast and the pool bar — her drinks were exceptional, she was genuinely kind and welcoming and she greatly enhanced our experience, though she appeared overworked.
Cons
Dinner (2/10): Disappointing every single night, including Christmas Day. At the on-site restaurant (Sur La Mer), the majority of menu items (often 80%) were unavailable regardless of whether we arrived at 6:00 pm or later. This was particularly frustrating as this is the only dinner option on the property and you were left with 2 or 3 options.
ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE: The all-inclusive offering is misleading. Guests are limited to one order per meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with no additional food options. While drinks are unlimited (with the exception of premium drinks, which you have to pay an additional fee), the food restrictions do not align with what most travellers expect from an all-inclusive experience. I would strongly advise reconsidering this package.
ROOMS & COMFORT
PROS Rooms are spacious Beds are comfortable Air condition worked well Decent wifi that could be accessed from the beach area Lighting is better than most Caribbean hotels Daily housekeeping was consistent and appreciated Property is generally clean and well maintained
CONS Hot water was an ongoing issue. There was no hot water on a daily basis and this was not isolated to one room — other guests experienced the same problem. Each day required calling the front desk, after which your options were (1) temporarily use a shower in another room (2) the issue will be addressed later in the day or (3) guests were offered a room change. This became very inconvenient.
Rooms are dated
Ocean view was disappointing (see photo)
There is no gym on the property
STAFF & SERVICE
PROS Approximately 90% of staff are friendly, welcoming and genuinely helpful Breakfast, lunch and bar staff consistently provided excellent service Front desk staff were patient, accommodating and helpful in assisting with an all-inclusive billing issue
Cons Dinner service provided was disingenuous.
LOCATION & ACCESSIBILITY
Pros Excellent beachfront access — less than one minute from room to beach Attractive beach setting
Cons Extremely steep hill at the entrance to the property. Guests with mobility issues will require a car.
Beach atmosphere varies — can be peaceful and quiet or VERY crowded and noisy when cruise ships or the Rhum Runner party boat offload its passengers
AMENITIES, ENTERTAINMENT & ATMOSPHERE
Pros Quiet property at night, which was appreciated Steelpan entertainment on Christmas Day was a nice touch Weddings and events add atmosphere for some guests
Cons
Reservations are sometimes required for dinner, ensure you ask at check in because they did not inform us
Poor communication regarding entertainment and BBQ nights. Events were not advertised in advance, resulting in little to no attendance (see photo)
Weddings and events can involve very loud music that impacts guests seeking a quiet stay
Mosquitoes were unusually aggressive and seemed resistant to insect repellent. Despite frequent use throughout the property, beach and in dining areas, we were left with multiple bites.
FINAL VERDICT
While the resort has a beautiful setting and many genuinely dedicated staff members, recurring operational issues — particularly with dining, hot water availability, mosquitoes and a misleading all-inclusive package - significantly affected the overall experience. Unfortunately, this stay did not represent good value for money when compared to other all-inclusive resorts and I would not return.
