Day 1 of our stay for my birthday vacation started off well. Check-in was quick, and the staff at arrival were friendly and welcoming. After traveling all day from North Carolina to Atlanta and finally arriving at the Hilton Resort Barbados, we were excited to relax and enjoy food and drinks by the pool. Unfortunately, the dining experience was disappointing. We ordered the fish sandwich with truffle fries and the steak sandwich with truffle fries, but our meals initially arrived cold. After sending them back, we later noticed the tray with our food sitting on the bar area until we had to ask if it was ours and request that it be brought over before it became cold again. The service throughout the meal was subpar. We repeatedly tried to get our server’s attention for very basic requests, including another straw and more ketchup. After waiting for assistance, I eventually just got up and retrieved a straw from the bar myself. Another staff member ultimately brought the ketchup over. At the same time, our server appeared much more attentive and engaged with the group of men seated at the table next to us, which did not go unnoticed. When she later returned and asked if the meal was “much better,” I honestly responded that it was “better, but not much better.” The food was slightly warmer, but by that point we had been traveling all day, were hungry, and decided to simply eat without making further complaints. Her response was, “Don’t let it steal your joy.” While she may have apologized, the overall experience had already left a negative impression. I travel often and always come financially prepared, understanding that resort pricing comes with the expectation of quality food, attentive service, and an elevated overall experience. I’m also typically a generous tipper, but in this case I did not feel comfortable leaving an additional tip beyond the included service charge. The most disappointing part is that we still have three more days at the resort and had planned to fully enjoy the convenience of dining poolside and on property. Instead, we’ll likely search for meals away from the resort, which is not how I normally approach a resort vacation. Hopefully the remainder of our stay improves, but Day 1 was not a good experience when it came to food and service.
We booked 8 nights here as an add on week before we were due at Sandals. My husband is a Diamond member so we got 8 free nights!
It is of course completely different from other boutique hotels or all inclusives and does cater for a lot of business travellers and cabin crew but we had a great time. Lovely buffet breakfast, a lovely Caribbean restaurant. We took advantage of getting Ubers into town to take advantage of the great restaurants on the island.
Room was spacious, clean and well decorated and staff were all so friendly.
The beach bar came alive in the evening and served some great food. Lovely views from high up where our room was
Staff was friendly, professional and went over and above to ensure we were happy. The hotel was very clean and our rooms were fantastic. Well appointed, clean with terrific views. I do recommend requesting a room with a balcony. The pool area was well maintained as was the beach. Not much can be done with all the seaweed, however we saw a large crew cleaning the beach in front of the hotel. The lobby was clean and in good shape, although the decor and furniture is rather uninspired. Such a beautiful setting - they could really create an impressive space. I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast buffet - fresh every day, with enough variety for most people. Listening to the waves from the patio and enjoying an omelet and fresh squeezed juice was a very nice way to begin the day. It was a perfect stay - thank you!!!
Excellent Service: The front desk and maid service were absolutely great.
No All-Inclusive Option: This is a European-style resort where everything is à la carte. means meals add up very quickly
Pricey Resort Dining: On-site restaurants are expensive and suffer from a lack of options.
Off-Property Needed: You must walk outside or take taxis for affordable food.
Taxi Costs: Transportation expenses pile up if you explore local restaurants.
Dated Rooms: The television in the room is old and outdated. bring your streaming device
Missing Amenities: No microwave is provided in the rooms for leftovers.
Beach was basically closed had to walk down the street to pebble beach for sports activity
The friendly staff makes the stay pleasant, but prepare to pay premium prices for limited choices.
The hotel is old, worn out and dirty. Some of the staff are nice, but most of them are quite rude. The breakfast was limited, not nice and all of the staff were rude. The beach bar and food was slightly better, but in general I would advise people to never stay here - it's not worth the money and the stress of being treated so badly.
