A Decent Holiday Destroyed in the Last 10 Minutes by Appalling, Borderline Scam Reception Staff

The Good (Let’s be fair): To give credit where it’s due, the Valeria Jardins offers exactly what you pay for. Yes, the hotel has seen better days and is visibly dated, but the food was decent, the entertainment facilities were good, and overall, it initially provided solid value for money. The Annoying (And Our Extreme Patience): To prove what reasonable guests we were, let me start with our room location. We were placed in a riad directly opposite the main street, in the very first room from the road. Every single morning around 5:00 to 5:30 AM, we were woken up by people leaving nightclubs, getting into cars and motorbikes, revving roaring engines, and honking their horns relentlessly. We didn’t complain a single time. We knew the hotel was packed and that drunk people and street traffic were entirely out of their control. We showed that exact same patience when it came to the pool. If you plan on getting a sun lounger, be prepared to set your alarm for 6:00 AM. As a family who actually likes to sleep in until 8:30 or 9:00 AM on holiday, we had absolutely zero chance of getting a bed because they were all occupied by towels and inflatables before sunrise. Again, we didn’t make a massive fuss; we adapted, set our towels up on the grass area behind the pool, and got on with our holiday. The Bad (The Runaround): The real problems started on day 5. Our son and daughter were set up on the grass area when someone decided to steal one of our towels (which carry a 100 Dirham deposit each). I reported this to security, who immediately passed the buck to the towel/lifeguard guy, who passed the buck to reception, who—surprise, surprise—passed it right back to the towel guy. Absolutely no one wanted to take responsibility. Eventually, they handed over a replacement towel and explicitly assured me that there would be no further issues upon checkout. The Ugly (The Departure Day Shakedown): Fast forward to our departure day. I went to the towel man, handed back all four of our towels, and received my four deposit cards in return (worth 400 Dirham total). I took these four cards to reception to collect my cash, exactly 10 minutes before our airport transfer. Instead of a smooth checkout, a staggeringly rude receptionist snatched two of the cards away, slammed down 200 Dirham, and blatantly told me I had "lost two towels." When I explained that one was stolen days ago and replaced by their own staff, and that I had just handed four towels back, his only response was a brick wall: "No, you lost two." Basic logic completely escaped this man: How on earth would I have four return cards in my hand if I had only given back two towels? I admittedly lost my temper. After tolerating the 5:00 AM street noise all week without a whisper of a complaint, it was completely unacceptable to be called a liar to my face while the hotel tried to withhold my money. I demanded they fetch the towel man. When he finally walked in, he immediately confirmed I had handed in all four towels. The Verdict & A Warning to Future Guests: Even after being proven right, I was raging at the sheer disrespect and demanded to speak to the manager. Unsurprisingly, the cowardly staff refused my request entirely. To add insult to injury, not a single person bothered to apologize. A quick heads-up on management's PR excuses: The hotel likes to respond to negative reviews by claiming reception staff were "just trying to assist" a different department and blaming a "discrepancy in information." Do not buy it. It is the exact same staff who cover both the main reception and towel desks. An employee stepped over from reception to cover the empty towel desk, took my FOUR physical return cards, kept 200 Dirham, called me a liar, and refused to get a manager. If a hotel cannot handle a simple towel return without insulting its guests, attempting a cheap shakedown, and hiding behind corporate excuses, they do not deserve your business.

the people in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. there was loads of fun activities to do and the food was delicious. and the cats on site were adorable and very friendly too! definitely would come again!
