Fantastic holiday
6 of us have just spent a great week at the RIU Tikida Garden hotel, we had a early flight and had booked a private transfer from the airport so arrived around 11am, wrist bands issued and we used the bar and restaurant facilities until the rooms were ready We were in room 386 which overlooked the main pools, our friends were also on the third floor overlooking the quiet pool. Rooms were modern, spacious and well equipped, and spotlessly clean. Food was very good, plenty of choice, we enjoyed that the evening meal was in a different restaurant and while it was still buffet style it had more of a restaurant feel. We ate in the Al a carte which was beautiful. The service throughout the hotel is amazing and all the staff are so polite friendly and efficient. My friend and I had a facial in the spa, which again was lovely. We’d booked a private walking tour to the Medina and the souks, which was super, we were picked up the hotel and taken to our guide then brought back to the hotel, well worth doing . Unfortunately as with other reviews the air conditioning was a problem, it quite simply wasn’t cold enough and the weather was hot, it certainly needs addressing. We had an absolutely fab time in another great RIU which we always try to stay in .

Painfully average
I’d say the the Riu Tikida Garden overall is average at best.
The highlights are the grounds and buildings are beautiful and have a traditional feel about them. Some of the pool areas are also very nice and it’s a rare find to see that large luxury bed-style sun loungers are free to use. I also want to emphasise the staff are very nice and attentive and I don’t blame them for most of these things.
Unfortunately this is the end of the positives. The negatives: -The Aircon in the room is not powerful or very cold
- the shower has very low pressure and just drips on you
-The fittings in the rooms are worn and need refurbishment -The food is dreadful, specifically the al-acarte restaurant which is exceptionally bad (staff are friendly though)
- Drinks menu is quite limited (no cranberry juice, no straws, etc… with soft drinks often being flat
-The live entertainment is just fine, no offence to the musicians or the staff but it needs sprucing up -There’s 4 pools in total and only 1 bar (except the lobby bar) for all 4 pools.

FANTASTIC
Well the staff at this hotel a amazing, Larbi from the beginning to end was fantastic, also Mohamed and Ei Habib. The hotel was graet, we like everything.
The only 1 thing I would say was there should be drinks service around the pools and in the evening's. This was the only downside 🫠

It was OK
Except for all the staff (who are over 100% the best), this hotel is a bit of a let down. We were here for one week and the food is repetitive; “snacks” advertised at 16:00hrs is just the left overs from lunch. FOR ALL WITH DIETARY RESTRICTIONS: Please note that the cards highlighting allergens in the accompanying food are NOT correct (for example, ketchup is apparently not gluten free). I pointed this out to the chef who acknowledged and confirmed this , and said not to trust the cards and instead to ask a chef to walk you through the menu! I took my own snacks… I’d advise you do too (there’s a fridge in the rooms). Other than that….Zanzibar is lovely. Reception is lovely…rooms cleaned everyday. AC is poor… from ours, there was a smell of sewage at some points during the day.

Okay but Average
Average is a good description. It’s clean but showing signs of wear and tear with poor upkeep and maintenance. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The room we have is not the best but isn’t the worst we’ve been in. Obviously I can’t comment on any other rooms but I’d assume they are similar. The AirCon is weak at best. There are basically two settings. On or off. There is a thermostat gauge but this makes no difference. There is a mini fridge in the room but it’s not actually a refrigerator more a cill cabinet which is inefficient. More like “cooler than room temperature “ The pools are decent but highly chlorinated so wear goggles or be prepared for stinging eyes. It appears they are also not heated in any way. There is only one outside bar for all the guests at the four pools so it can be busy. There are loungers and cabana’s but during our stay some of the guests were “reserving” them early, very early, really early, with towels. Having what I consider to be a polite upbringing (and proud of it) this kind of behaviour is not what we expected in a RIU hotel. The food is “okay” but breakfast and lunch are organised chaos. Cups , mugs and glasses are nowhere near the machine’s so you wonder aimlessly looking. It feels like a budget experience but with a higher price tag. We Will come to Morocco but we’ll stay at a different hotel.
