La Maison des Oliviers Hotel

I am a travel agent, so go with open eyes. This was booked for my birthday and anniversary. We did advise the hotel but nothing was offered, not even a simple happy birthday!

We arrived early and was taken to our room straight away, which was a pleasant surprise. The porter carried my small suitcase and we tipped him. He them went into our friends room and had done nothing for them and expected a tip! He hovered around until they tipped him. Room was large and spacious. Fridge with large bottle of water in it. But the tv did not work, and the safe was operated by a key which was not provided. Our friends worked perfectly We advised reception but nothing was done.

There are no tea or coffee facilities in a room. First for us. Following day only 12 towel in the room, so had to ask for more. We also asked about more water to be told you have to pay for it!

We were told at the bar it was cash only but they never had any change! So you could end up giving a high tip for a simple coke.

Breakfast you can ask for an omelette but it is a choice of plain or cheese. It is only as we read on TripAdvisor you can ask for this otherwise we would not have known as not advertised. Otherwise it is a continental breakfast with an adequate choice.

The grounds are stunning and so well kept. The main pool was closed so we could use the ones that were private for the presidential suites. On the last day they reopened the main pool which was superb.

We advised reception that we were leaving early for our flight and they let us go into restaurant to have a coffee and croissant before we departed.

There is a resort fee to pay. But they did try to charge us for food we never had as ate out each evening. But they did take it off.

We did get an uber into the city cost between 60 and 70 MAD so better value than using the shuttle. Also plenty of them. But they are again cash not on card.

If anyone has mobility issues let the hotel know as there are no lifts to the upstairs rooms.

We found the female staff to be so friendly and smiley, but the male staff never seemed to have a smile on their face.

At a push I would stay again as very clean and pleasant stay but a bit far out and you could not walk anywhere. But if your looking for a tranquil oasis then it is perfect.

This was a last minute getaway so instead of staying where we had twice before we decided on somewhere different. The hotel is about 20-30 minutes from the city centre, so away from the hustle and bustle. It is a pretty run-down residential area but once through the gates it is a real oasis with so many trees and birds. The huge disappointment was that one day into our stay the pool was drained and the poolside restaurant closed! We had no warning of this. There are 3 very small pools in the grounds of some of the rooms but one didn’t have any proper filtration system and they were all packed. We luckily had a private garden so we had sun loungers there and that’s where we stayed. It was extremely hot but I was ably to pop in to the air conditioned room whenever it became too much! The room was large but very”tired”. It was fine though and had an enormous shower. Cleaning staff were efficient and very lovely. The food was O.K. - breakfast was a buffet of pastries, cold meats etc. There was a dodgy toaster! If you wanted eggs you had to ask a surly member of staff. It wasn’t generally advertised that they’d do eggs for you. After the pool restaurant closed, lunch was taken in the main restaurant. Sandwiches, burgers etc. all ok. The evening meals, again, were ok - nothing to rave about but equally, nothing to complain about. It’s the same menu every night. We were there for 10 nights so ate out 4 times for variety. In conclusion, it was fine for an impromptu holiday but I wouldn’t stay there again.

This was yet another return journey to La Maison - it is our little oasis in Marrakech and we try and go every year. Due to commitments we went a little later which was July and it was as hot as hell! Despite having been twice before in July about 10 years ago global warming must be having an impact!

We always book to go into the newer rooms as we like the space and the outside terrace. Room is always immaculate and I was delighted after 10 years to see the evening menu had changed - lost a couple of things but gained a few new items. I cannot fault the chef - all of our meals have been great and we have always had an excellent service from staff.

Pool is lovely and the pool staff and gardeners work really hard to keep everywhere spick and span.

I do think communication could be improved at times - as a regular visitor we know how things work but I can see why some people might get confused over such things and for eg a simple sign saying omelettes available would help for breakfast.

This is not a 5 star hotel and guests need to remember that it does not have all of the amenities of a 5 star. What you do get in return though is a beautiful, peaceful oasis and excellent food and yes there are hundreds of places to stay in Marrakech but we will always go back - the generous warm welcome and the staff make our holiday with the staff having been there for many years. It truly is like going home - just not in July!
