Marrakech

This hotel is located in the city centre, in the Guéliz district and is an ideal point of departure for walks around the city and visits to cultural sites. The medina is 2 kms away and it is 70 kms to Oukaimeden. Marrakech Airport is just 4 kms from the hotel. This hotel is built in style of traditional Moroccan houses and riads and combines this traditional element with convenient facilities for its guests. The lines and warm colours of the hotel interiors mix Zellige Fassi, marble and mosaics and offer a true haven of peace. There is parking available for those arriving by car. At the spa centre guests can enjoy a real traditional Hammam beauty ritual. This city hotel comprises rooms spread over several floors as well as a garden and a terrace.

Highly recommend

The hotel was ideally located to visit all the sights in Marrakech. We felt very welcomed and the staff were amazing. The pool guy was always on hand to help us out with sun loungers and parasols. The bar and waiting staff were friendly. The food at breakfast and lunch was really good and there was a great selection. Both rooms were clean and exactly what you need after a day sightseeing. The housekeeper was in daily to change towels and give the place a once over. Although there was upgrading work happening we barely noticed any noise or mess. All together for the price it was a really friendly, relaxed place to stay for the week.

Sadly not a great experience overall.....

This hotel is extremely tired and tatty but is not quite as bad as some reviews suggest. We stayed here for 7 days and had booked via easyJet holidays for the room with breakfast included. We are a large family so had two 'superior' rooms on our booking. Both rooms were far from superior and they said to get their newest rooms we could pay 25E per room per night to upgrade to premium rooms. However, the rooms included had the basics that were needed but were both extremely dated and tired. The taps were loose, bath and showers were in a poor state, fixtures and fittings were poor, we didn't have a kettle or anything like that in our rooms, so apart from beds, bathroom and a small fridge that was about it. We asked about a kettle and were told that these were only in the premium rooms. This should not be considered a 4 star hotel and should be considered a low level 3 star at best really. It probably was a lovely 4 star hotel 10-20 years ago when first built though.

Good points: The pool was pretty good and had a lovely 'lifeguard' who gave towels out each day and ran around helping people with sunbeds and parasols. It wasn't too bad getting sunbeds and we generally got them when needed if we went out there at breakfast time, however the sunbeds and parasols were again in poor condition (some being held up by make shift bolts as the mechanisms were broken. The hotel location was pretty good and only 5 mins away from a Carrefour supermarket. We could get 6 seater taxi's into the centre quite easily for around 100 diram. Also quite a few restaurants nearby, although varied massively by price depending on what street you went down. The aircon in both of our rooms worked well and was nice and cold when kept on during the day. The omelette man at breakfast was friendly and pretty good. Bad points: The hotel is extremely tired and in urgent need of renovation. Many of the staff were quite abrupt, apart from the 'lifeguard' who was great. On the whole the breakfast buffet was pretty poor - cracked mugs, dirty chairs, not enough staff to clear the tables, constantly ran out of glasses, plates, cutlery and various food elements and when asked they just said it was all gone for the day way before the 10am cut off. We also had stomach problems on the 4th or 5th day and we had been very careful where we had eaten out. We feel this was likely due to unsanitary practices from the breakfast buffet as we often found small birds and cats in the dining room, along with dirty glasses etc. There were also renovation works going on when we stayed here and although the noise wasn't horrendous, you did often hear power drills and banging etc. during the afternoon if you were inside the hotel. Would we stay here again? Absolutely not. However, was it bad enough to totally ruin our holiday and make a formal complaint, not quite. If you are going to use it more as a base and spend lots of time outside the hotel this was just about tolerable. If you want to spend most of your holiday at the hotel for a relaxing poolside break, we would advise finding somewhere else.

Highly recommend! Staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful, the security tall man was lovely. The bed was so comfy, air conditioning was great! So much around the hotel, shops, restaurants, tour pick ups from the hotel. Didn’t experience any noise. Eveything was clean. Great value!!

Little Gem

Really good location, rooms are clean, and staff helpful. Air Con , fridge and clean towels daily. Breakfast adequate for most. It is old, but I would recommend for the price you pay, if you have Hilton expectation, then book a Hilton. Swimming pool is amazing, and Aziz the pool guy very attenuative

Beautiful Moroccan Hotel

This is a lovely hotel - ignore the negative reviews. Yes there are a few cracked tiles here and there, but this doesn't affect the overall beauty of the hotel. Upon entering the reception area, which was very spacious and beautifully decorated in typical Moroccan style. We were met by a nice man on reception who saw to our booking speedy and efficiently. He told us about the tourist tax and upgraded us to a room with a balcony (which we paid for). We were taken to our room by the tall security man - he was a lovely man and we did have a laugh trying to get to the right room. Our room was on the top floor - which is what we wanted - the room was spacious and the maid even came in to make the two single beds into one huge king sized bed for us. We had a balcony which over looked the pool area which was lovely. The bathroom had a decent bath, shower over bath, bidet and toilet and sink with toiletries and lovely smelling towels. There was free to use safe and a small fridge with a freezer with a ice cube tray. There was no tea making facilities, but this wasn't an issue for us. There was glasses in the room though. The bed was very comfortable and the air con was ok - would have liked it a bit cooler but that was because it was extremely hot outside when we visited. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and found the breakfast selection decent - you could get a decent breakfast with juices, water and hot drinks. The omelette station was a great addition. The pool area was spotlessly clean and the pool guy Aziz was brilliant. Every day he would keep two beds in the spot we liked, he would check in on you throughout the day to make sure we were ok. The hotel provided towels for the pool area and Aziz would give you another one for your head. There is a lovely pool bar that serves food and non alcoholic drinks. You are not allowed to consume your own food or drinks by the pool / seating area. If the catch you, they will politely tell you its not allowed. There is a great terraced area to sit and have food and drinks and there was music played all day from abut 10.30ish. Inside the hotel there are two lifts - the main one we actually found slower than the other one. The faster one (to the left of the reception) is faster and has a glass window that you can see the outside while travelling up or down - scenic view

Outside the hotel to the right less than one minute walk you will find a small shop that sells cans and bottles of pop, water, cigarettes etc (no alcohol) There are a few places to eat by the hotel but we can only comment on the Bey1961 as we did eat here. The hotel is in a good location to walk to many decent places to eat (see my other reviews) There is a very large shopping mall (Carrefour) about a five minute walk away and they have a designated section for alcohol. Carrefour literally sells everything. WIFI is very good indeed, we were able to stream and use social media and contact family in the UK,

Late check out was available at a small charge

we would definitely return to this hotel
