Relaxing In The Sun
Medina Palms is about a two and a half hour drive from Mombasa, but it is a lovely, small, quiet hotel in beautiful surroundings with very friendly staff. There appeared to be a variety of rooms. Our room was more of an apartment with lounge, fully fitted kitchen, two bathrooms and two bedrooms. As we were full board, we never made use of the kitchen and only used one of the bedrooms and bathrooms. Only one a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, but the choice was more than enough and the food was excellent. We were lucky with the weather and were able to dine outside for lunch and dinner (with no bother from mosquitos). One small complaint was that we had to pay for water with the meals. Not expected in a 5* hotel. A very Moorish theme to the architecture , with ogee arches and interconnected pools running through the gardens and down to the long, white sand beach. You could swim in the pools and the pool attendants were always on hand to supply towels for the very comfortable sun beds, of which there was plenty of choice. Took a few walks into Watamu. Felt quite safe and were never bothered by souvenir sellers etc. We made use of the local motorbike or tuk tuk taxis for our return, (very reasonable price). After four days, we went on a 5 day safari wth Pollmans (see seperate trip adviser report). We had to vacate our room, but the hotel looked after our luggage and we returned for a further five days to the same room. All in all, a wonderful holiday and I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Wonderful

A relaxing stay
Attractive hotel with very spacious suites. We enjoyed the beach bar and the view from there, the beach is stunning! We ate in the garden which is charming although the breakfast service could be slow with everything being brought from the first floor restaurant downstairs. We enjoyed all the meals, lovely fruit selection at breakfast. We especially enjoyed the prawns piri piri. Lots of pools to sit around and enjoy but only one swimming pool with a hand rail? Our suite was at the sea front near to the ‘large adult only pool’ but I could never access it. I am elderly and need something to hold onto when getting in and out of a pool. A handrail there by the steps would be excellent! Staff were all friendly and helpful.

A Slice of Paradise at Median Palms, Watamu
Median Palms is one of those rare places that instantly slows your heartbeat the moment you arrive. Tucked into tranquil, beautifully curated surroundings, it feels like a private sanctuary where every detail has been designed to soothe, delight, and surprise.
We stayed in the penthouse, and honestly, it was out of this world. The private plunge pool, the secluded sunbathing areas, the sweeping views, every inch felt like luxury woven with calm. Waking up there each morning felt like stepping into a dream you don’t want to end.
The choice of pools across the property is fantastic, each offering its own mood and backdrop. And then there’s the beach bar, an absolute treat. Whether you’re grabbing a cold drink in the afternoon breeze or settling in for something delicious at sunset, it’s the kind of spot you remember long after you’ve left. The food throughout our stay was outstanding, full stop.
What truly elevates Median Palms, though, is the staff. Every single person we met was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay perfect. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their kindness added a layer of magic to the whole experience.

Beautifully set hotel within a forest like feel, pools along the entire stretch down to the beach.
Rooms are clean and huge, the pent house had a well equipped kitchen, two lounges, dining area, two large ensuite bedrooms and a plunge pool rooftop. We had clean fresh towels daily and Phineas Pendo looked after our room well.
All rooms have views to the pool areas, convenient for those with children. Service by the pool was excellent, thanks to Alex and his hospitality skills.
Breakfast spread was one of the best we've had, with choices of pastries, fruits, cheeses, eggs, waffles, pancakes, sausages, and daily local options too like mahamri barazi and mandazis. Amandina restaurant had a large a la carte menu - seafood, pizzas, continental and veg options were excellent. Kiddy menu was great for light lunch time meals Service was decent, no long waits!
We travelled during low season and had the BNB option as there are many restaurants near by
