Underwhelming - Not a 5 star

We booked this hotel expecting a 5 star experience, but unfortunately it fell very far short of the standard we expected. On arrival, we were immediately underwhelmed. The hotel felt surprisingly small, and we genuinely wondered whether we had somehow missed another part of the complex. The food facilities in particular are very limited, and we struggled to understand how the hotel would cope when operating at full capacity.

We travelled as a group of 18, and sadly around three quarters of our group became unwell during the holiday. We appreciate that illness can happen when travelling to Egypt, and we went fully aware of that possibility, but the proportion of our group affected was extremely disappointing and much higher than we anticipated.

Food & Drink The food was one of the biggest disappointments. The choice was very limited, and there were particularly poor options for children. As a family group, we ended up having little choice but to eat out on several occasions, which isn't what you expect when you've booked an all inclusive 5 star hotel. They offer theme nights but the food seems very much the same, not ideal for 14 nights. Drinks were all included with a good selection however most were served from bottles and were very warm throughout the day. The use of paper cups at night when there weren't enough plastic cups was also disappointing and certainly didn't feel like a 5 star experience. The best bar experience is in Mermaid where you can watch football and play pool which seems like the better evening option due to poor entertainment.

Pool The main pool was closed for more than half of our holiday, and this was not due to guest behaviour or misuse. There appeared to be an ongoing issue with the chemical levels. On the days the pool was open, the water was so uncomfortable that it was difficult to stay in for any length of time, with burning eyes and skin. Having the main pool unavailable for such a large proportion of a holiday was a major disappointment. There is a small wave pool which is turned on every hour and some slides that have set times of use through the day. A positive is there are no towel wars. Plenty of empty sun beds while the hotel was quiet and tips to the towel man meant be put them ready for us every morning.

Entertainment The entertainment programme lacked variety and enthusiasm. The hotel also appears to be very heavily geared towards Russian guests, which was noticeable throughout the entertainment. Unfortunately, this sometimes resulted in tension and conflict during games and activities that should simply have been fun for everyone. The evening entertainment area itself is also very dated. There aren't enough chairs, meaning many guests have to stand, while the bar is very small with no tables. There is even a cocktail sign displayed at the bar despite cocktails not actually being served there. The whole area feels overly formal and uncomfortable rather than somewhere you can relax and enjoy the evening.

Rooms & cleanliness The hotel also appears seriously understaffed when it comes to cleaning. On some days our room wasn't visited until late afternoon, meaning we were having to call reception for clean towels. On some occasions, this resulted in the room not being cleaned at all. Even when cleaned, the standard was very basic. When we arrived, my feet were filthy simply from unpacking and walking around the room. After raising our concerns with management, we were offered a deeper clean, which we appreciated, but unfortunately even this did not bring the room up to the standard we would expect from a 5 star hotel. Walking around the hotel there are some cleaners using cloths to clean floors with little chemicals being used.

To be fair, after some friends in our group checked out and left feedback, members of management did approach us and make an effort to improve things for the remainder of our stay, but this was too late.

They arranged some additional touches, including a British banquet one lunchtime, which was lovely, and extra coolers after we raised concerns that the daytime beer was being served warm.

We appreciated the effort, and it showed that improvements were possible. However, our feeling was that these changes came far too late. If the hotel has the facilities and resources to provide these things when guests raise concerns, they should really be part of the normal service expected from a 5 star hotel rather than something introduced towards the end of a holiday following complaints.

The photographs and videos advertised online are technically a representative of the hotel, but they have clearly been filmed and edited very cleverly to make the facilities appear much larger, more impressive and more luxurious than they feel in reality. Seeing the hotel in person was a very different experience from what we had expected from the advertising.

Ultimately, we made the best of our holiday and enjoyed ourselves on the days when we were feeling well. Our group tried not to let the problems ruin the trip however we could not help but feel very disappointed.

One of the biggest positives was the staff, particularly the outdoor bar team. They were friendly, hardworking and genuinely helped create what little atmosphere there was. They were, without doubt, a highlight of our stay.

Unfortunately, though, friendly staff couldn't compensate for the number of negatives we experienced.

For a hotel advertised and sold as 5 star, we expected considerably more, particularly in terms of food choice, cleanliness, facilities, pool availability, entertainment and overall standards.

Sadly, based on our experience, we would not return and would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a genuine 5 star holiday experience.

Great holiday experience at Naama Waves

We spent 10 fantastic days at Naama Waves and had a wonderful stay. We received a warm welcome at the hotel, and despite checking in at around 1 a.m. due to a delayed flight, some late-night snacks were kindly sent to our room.

The room was very comfortable and a good size. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom had both a shower and a bath. We had a terrace just a few steps from the Waves pool, which was extremely convenient as we could easily jump into the pool and return to our room. This also meant that we did not need to get up early to reserve sunbeds, as we could simply use our terrace when we wanted to relax. The Wi-Fi was fast enough for normal use. The kids sometimes complained that it was not fast enough to play PS5 online, but it was more than adequate for work, YouTube, and general browsing. The only minor issue was that we could connect only three devices at a time, so I occasionally had to share the internet connection from my mobile. This was not a major problem, though. The room also had a TV, but it would be even better with more English-language channels or, ideally, a Smart TV. The food was very good, particularly dinner. There was a good variety of options at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we never had any problems finding a table in the restaurant. Drinks and snacks were available throughout most of the day.

The staff were excellent throughout the hotel, including those working in the restaurant, reception, housekeeping, and other areas. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and efficient. They were always happy to help with whatever we needed, from bringing food or an iron to the room to carrying out minor repairs and keeping the room clean. On one occasion, we travelled to Cairo and had to leave before breakfast started. The hotel kindly prepared lunch boxes for us to take with us, which was a very nice touch.

The pools were lovely and very clean, and the lifeguards were always attentive and made sure everyone was safe. The only improvement I would suggest is extending the pool opening hours, as they currently close at 6 p.m.

The hotel is also conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from an area with plenty of shops, restaurants, markets, and other activities. The area really comes to life in the evening, making it a pleasant place for a walk after dinner. The only aspect we found slightly disappointing was the private beaches. They are relatively small, and on the occasions we visited, we could not find available sunbeds. To be fair, however, we did not go particularly early, so this may have contributed to the problem.

Overall, we had a fantastic 10 days at Naama Waves and would happily stay here again.

Finally found our return holiday πŸ™Œ

Having never taken the family on a two week holiday before, I was concerned it would be too much. However, when we realised we had booked in Naana Waves Fun&Sun hotel, the staff and amenities never gave us chance to be bored. From the very beginning, the staff couldn't do any more for us. We arrived just before midnight after a delayed flight and they whisked us straight to the closed restaurant to get some food. My son is a picky eater so they made him fresh chicken nuggets (strips) and chips and let us choose to eat in there or our room. We then spent the next two weeks making friends with so many members of staff who could not do enough for us and help make our stay enjoyable. We would like to say a huge thank you to Hosseiny Ahmed for making all of us feel like family during our stay. To Ahmed Gamal, Ahmed Ibrahim, Amir Gamil and Momo (our lifeguard) your constant attention to detail, service and general conversations when passing made our stay so much more than a holiday πŸ˜€ the food was lovely. Mornings have fresh waffles, crepes and many other offerings. Lunchtime has an option for an English bar 1 till 2:30 or the main restaurant 1 till 3pm and the evenings, there are themed nights most nights or you can use the Italian or Mexican A La Carte which I would highly recommend the Italian (didn't get chance to use the mexican). In the main restaurant, if you ask a chef nicely, they would make you pretty much what you'd like. Nothing seems too much trouble for them! My daughter loved this one pasta they made her so much, they made it fresh for her any night she asked for it. Amazing service! There are snacks available pretty much all day. By the pool bar, there's "breakfast" type snacks like freshly baked croissants and lunchtime there's pizzas, hot dogs etc. Ice cream is available but we only had it once as it has been so hot here, it pretty much melted by the time we got back to the sunbeds! Also, if you are doing a full day excursion, let them know as they will make up packed lunches for you. These include breakfast snacks, lunch rolls, fruit, juice cartons and water. There is a small park, pool tables, table tennis/ping pong tables, some board games available in the mermaid bar for hire. The pool table is also chargeable but Β£4 for an hour doesn't break the bank. There is a spa, salon in the other hotel and a small gym. The rooms are a really good size! As a family of 4 with teen kids, the space was perfect. Some small imperfections which are wear and tear over time but separate bath to shower. Full shampoos, conditioners, gels, soaps offered and housekeeping were brilliant at topping it up if it was used. Housekeeping also were amazing. Ours learnt we were not early risers, so came round to us in the afternoons and left some awesome towel art. Beds were comfortable, clean and made up every day. The patio area was a really good size. Pools were great too. Slides, wave pool, lazy river type pool and a smaller, more quiet pool. Which we stayed near during our stay. Our lifeguards were talkative, attentive and made pools days fun by interacting with the kids. Giving the hotel a great atmosphere for our family. Always smiling both us and the staff. The other hotel amenities are available to use but we didn't make use of any of them. Apart from the guy driving the golf cart up and down the hill. He was legendary! Yalabina! There are wild cats all within the hotel. Which we loved as we are animal lovers. There is a small supermarket which offers snacks, small souvenirs and cigarettes if you smoke. Also head scarves if you book quad biking. The hotel is well situated for Naama Bay shopping, night life and when booking excursions, you can leave from either reception. If you want to book excursions, go see Ramy or Mahmoud in the reception of the other hotel (Tasneem Aqua Sport) as they are great and really listen to what you are after. Overall, we feel we've found a place we could come back to every year. It's been an awesome experience and its mainly due to such great staff and service. Thank you all.
