🏝️ Athuruga Diamond Resort… or the very definition of paradise.
We discovered this place almost by chance — and it was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful coincidences of our lives. My wife and I chose to celebrate our birthdays there… and the experience exceeded everything we could have imagined.
It all begins upon arrival in Malé, with a suspended moment in time: the seaplane transfer. The deep hum of the engines, the slight vibration of the cabin… and then suddenly, an inner silence in front of the spectacle. Beneath us, the atolls appear like fragments of turquoise and emerald scattered across the ocean. An almost unreal vision.
Then, Athuruga.
The seaplane begins its descent, gently skimming the water before coming to a stop near the island, alongside a floating platform that serves as an airport. The door opens. A soft warmth immediately surrounds us, blended with the salty scent of the ocean.
And already, a thoughtful touch: Julia is there waiting for us. She comes to meet us by boat directly from the island. This first encounter — both simple and elegant — immediately sets the tone for the stay.
The short ride across the water, lulled by the gentle movement of the waves and the dazzling light, carries us toward Athuruga like a dream.
Our first steps on the incredibly fine white sand mark the beginning of a timeless escape.
Our south-facing water villa is a true gem. A room open to infinity, set above crystal-clear water, with a vibrant reef just steps away… and beneath us. Every morning, gently awakened by the sound of the water beneath the villa, every sunset setting the horizon ablaze becomes a moment of pure wonder.
With a glass of prosecco in hand, time simply stands still.
The two restaurants fully live up to the setting: one set on stilts, intimate and refined; the other offering a remarkable buffet, both generous and of exceptional quality. But beyond the cuisine, it is the people who truly leave a lasting impression. An outstanding team: attentive without ever being intrusive, always smiling, often witty, always perfectly balanced. From housekeeping to maintenance, from the servers with their subtle humor to the passionate sommelier and the inspired chefs — everyone contributes to that rare feeling of being genuinely welcomed.
And then, there is the Dive Center.
We initially planned for just one dive… and ended up leaving as certified PADI divers.
Alongside Niels Müller, we discovered far more than just a training experience. His intelligent and thoughtful teaching approach, his ability to reassure without ever rushing, and his strong sense of responsibility — which is immense in this field — truly impressed us. With remarkable patience, he guided us step by step, built our confidence, and above all, inspired us to go further and further.
Thanks to him and his entire team — instructors and crew — we explored, with joy and wonder, underwater worlds of breathtaking beauty. The silence beneath the surface, the filtered light, the vibrant colors… each dive became an almost intimate experience.
This stay was far more than a trip.
A precious escape. A suspended moment in time. A deeply human and sensory experience.

Paradise Found
What a wonderful holiday, definitely one of the best we have had. The island is a picture postcard of white sand and crystal blue waters. Snorkelled several times a day and it was like swimming in a tropical Aquarium. There were so many fish, and we even saw turtles, and sharks several times. It really was a dream come true amongst the house reef.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, always happy to answer questions, of which my husband always had plenty!
We stayed in a water villa which for me was the icing on the cake, we had breakfast every morning looking out at the beautiful ocean. Food in the restaurants was great, even though we were allowed to use the water villa restaurant, we actually preferred the buffet in the main room. There was so much choice, there really was something for everyone and it changed daily. They had a good selection of fresh fish cooked on the bbq every lunchtime and evening and cooked to perfection. Deserts and ice cream absolutely delicious.
I would definitely recommend to anyone that wants peace, tranquility and relaxation with an excellent house reef, and great staff.

Amazing Holiday…one I won’t forget!
There’s probably not enough room in this message box to describe how amazing the Athuruga Diamond hotel resort is, from the Amazing staff that work night and day to do anything for you, The gorgeous beaches and coral reef that you’ll find different species every day when snorkelling. It starts with you being met on a pontoon from leaving the seaplane. Being escorted into the reception, greeted with a cold fruit drink and fruit.
The front desk are so helpful, A lovely young lady called Lea, make sure me and my mum were really taken care of… and this one on one personal treatment is given to everyone. The dive team are great and have got some good experience. They helped me with a few things. I didn’t even know, The entertainment is good, disco Night, The Maldives night is extra special with workers on the island performing traditional song and dance with live instruments made from the palm trees.
The grounds on the island are continually looked after and they regularly ranked the Sand, and if you’re lounging on your beach villa sometimes the staff will come by with a coconut and open it for you so you can have fresh coconut that’s how amazing this island and the people are… Breakfast lunch and dinner are equally astounding with a massive selection of food from freshly grilled fish, or steak, A massive selection of desserts… and if you like things from Home, they have a dedicated pizza oven area where they make fresh pizza…
The Wi-Fi is good and strong in the main bar area, but in the room it can suffer slightly, that being said I quite like being disconnected from the world and having no social media pounding me every second of every day… The departure from the island is as amazing as arriving where they provide you with all the detail details you need on the last day even with a nice goodbye message on your bed… this is my second time to this island. There will be a third 😉😉
Honeymoon
Athuruga is an incredibly amazing and magical place! If you have a dream, this place makes it even more beautiful. It feels like living inside a postcard! The food, together with Chef Fernando, was absolutely excellent. He has the incredible ability to make you feel at home, taking care of all those little details that sometimes are forgotten because we have become used to expecting everything to be perfect. But here you find everything: your favourite cured meats, cheeses, pizza, pasta, and even the barbecue… in the Maldives!!! All the waiters are fantastic: kind, friendly, caring, and welcoming ,they almost feel like friends. Layaan is simply amazing, and Abdhull as well… both truly wonderful. The bar team is also fantastic, and the entertainment was incredible, with Giulia singing like a true star! The reef is full of unique beauty, (thank you Francesco, Daniele and Joe) with amazing corals and fish, plus turtles and sharks that make the experience even more unforgettable. We made many beautiful friendships and met so many wonderful people. If we could, we would definitely come back again. And Lea is absolutely amazing! She works incredibly hard to make sure every single moment becomes unforgettable. A dream honeymoon. Our stay at Diamonds Athuruga Maldives was truly the most incredible, relaxing, and unforgettable vacation we have ever had.
From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The service was exceptional, and every member of the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. A special thank you to Abdula and Titu, Davide and the boy at the bar, who were incredibly kind, caring, and charismatic. They always greeted us with a smile, and their warmth made our stay even more memorable.
Our room was spacious, beautifully designed, and impeccably clean every single day. One of my favorite features was the outdoor bathroom—it made the whole experience feel even more connected to nature while still offering complete privacy. It was such a unique and beautiful touch.
We were also impressed by how peaceful the resort was. Our room was located very close to the restaurant, but we never heard any noise. We expected it to be busier, yet it was incredibly quiet and relaxing throughout our stay. That really impressed us and made it so easy to completely disconnect and enjoy the tranquility of the island.
The diving team was fantastic—professional, friendly, and passionate about what they do. Every dive was an unforgettable experience. The spa treatments were amazing and the perfect way to relax even more, and the food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety and excellent quality at every meal.
Everything was spotlessly clean, from our room to the restaurants, beach, and all the common areas. You can really see how much care the staff puts into maintaining the resort.
We also felt that the resort offered excellent value for money. The quality of the accommodations, the outstanding service, the food, the activities, and the overall experience made every moment worth it.
My husband and I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful island and its wonderful people. We are leaving with unforgettable memories and cannot wait to come back. Thank you, Diamonds Athuruga, for giving us the vacation of a lifetime!
